WELCOME TO KSI & CLEAN~VOLT
A MESSAGE FROM EDWARD KRAS (ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE)
In conjunction with M.I.M. Business Solutions we have been able to provide a product which will not only benefit almost any size business (from home businesses to variety stores to airports) but also the residential home owner. Other competitors may claim to offer the same protection as the Clean~Volt unit but unfortunately there is always a fine print attached to their products. Clean~Volt is currently installed and undergoing rigorous testing at airport facilities, large commercial stores/businesses and in homes.
If I didn't believe that the product worked I would not have installed one in my own home to protect my valuable electrical appliances / equipment and neither would they:

INTRO / HISTORY
Clean~Volt was first introduced in the United States in 1982. Since its inception, the product has undergone rigorous testing which has allowed for the development of the product which it has become today. The unit was first marketed as a lightning arrester. Through testing and various upgrades and years of research, the unit was found to possess the ability to serve other functions. But it does not stop there. The Clean~Volt unit is very versatile. It can run on both 50 and 60 cycles of electrical current. Allowing for its installation in Canada, the United States and Europe.
It is here that we should note that the term "surge arrester" is frequently misused to describe those devices designed to plug into one outlet (power bars) to protect only that one circuit. The proper term for such devices is transient voltage surge suppressor. Under UL 1449 standards, they are not required to satisfy, as is the secondary surge arrester, UL criteria for over voltage conditions caused by lightning strikes.
Why Clean~Volt? The answer is simple, dirty electrical power. Due to the phenomenal growth in our population and commercial industries an increased strain has been placed on hydroelectric companies to produce enough energy to power an expanding customer base. Therefore, more people are feeding off one power source, grids get larger, and the harmonics, transients, sags and swells, as well as voltage imbalances occur. These electrical disturbances are not filtered out. They are allowed to travel into your home and/or businesses electrical appliances and equipment slowing damaging and causing premature failures and breakdowns of valuable and expensive equipment. One of the benefits that was discovered through the developmental and testing phases over the years was that the Clean~Volt unit acts as that filter in removing harmful harmonics and transients. Dirty power deceases an appliances ability to work efficiently. When we buy expensive appliances such as fridges, stoves, air conditioners we look at the Energy Guide sticker. By removing harmful and dirty electrical current going to your appliances and electrical equipment, Clean~Volt increases the life span of the product and increases its efficiency, leading to lower hydroelectric consumption.
Another major concern is the devastating effects of lightning. Lightning is an electrical discharge caused when static electricity builds up between thunderclouds and the ground. Lightning strokes carry up to 100 millions volts of electricity and leap from cloud to cloud, or cloud to ground and vice versa. Although lightning originates in storm clouds, one component comes from the ground. As charged particles rush from the base of a thunderhead towards the ground at a speed of 360,000,000 kHz (225 million mph) streams of opposite charges leap skyward from objects on the ground. When a connection is made the two meet in mid-air about 50 meters (yards) above the ground, thus completing the channel.
At every moment of every day, nearly 1,800 thunderstorms strike Earth. Two thirds of them strike in the summer months of June, July and August in the Northern Hemisphere and mostly in the afternoon. That is 16 million per year. All of them produce lightning. They can last average of 30 minutes and typically only 24km (15 miles) across. Yet despite their relatively small size and short life, all thunderstorms are dangerous and cause can cause massive damage.
Clean~Volt was specifically designed to protect your home and/or business's valuable electrical appliances and equipment from these massive surges of power. Clean~Volt's patented G.S.C. technology shunts to ground the massive power spikes and surges caused by lightning. Never giving it a chance to enter into your home and/or businesses and damage your valuables and expensive appliances and equipment. Clean~Volt is not a transient voltage surge suppressor.
Clean~Volt is rated as a secondary surge arrester and therefore is rated for lightning strikes..
Like most electrical applications there are a variety of types (residential & commercial) and sizes that are suitable for different needs. To determine which application is most suitable for your home or business please contact K&S Communications by filling out a request form, or telephone, fax or mail, or email us. We will be more than happy to answer any questions or help you determine which unit is most suitable for your needs.

POOR QUALITY AND ASSOCIATED SYMPTOMS
The institute of electrical & electronic engineers defines power quality "as a concept of powering and grounding sensitive electronic equipment in a manner that is suitable to the operation of the equipment." What that means to you and me is that as electrical engineers and designers we need to insure that the designs we provide to our clients can fully guarantee that the equipment to be utilized within the building is fed by a power system that is as close to ideal as possible.

Example of a clean
electrical wave
Transients: A transient voltage disturbance, commonly known as a spike or power surge is a major deviation form the normal line voltage that may last from a fraction of a microsecond, up to several milliseconds. These deviations are either impulsive or oscillatory. The impulsive transients are usually the result lightning strikes and power equipment switching. They have a fast rise and decay and are accompanied by a high-energy content. Oscillatory transients are representative of capacitor bank switching. They also have a fast rise, but their decay is more slower and occur over time. Their energy content is significantly lower than that associated with impulsive transients. These transients are difficult to detect without the use of expensive equipment. Detection is important because they can cause immediate or cumulative component failure.

Example of transient voltage Sine wave.
Sags & Swells: They are short duration occurrences. Sags are reductions in voltage at constant frequency, where swells are marked by periods of over voltage at constant frequency. Sags are triggered by starting large motor loads. Swells are often the result of overheating equipment, while the symptoms associated with sags include motor stalls, and loads going off line.

Example of voltage wave experiencing sags and swells.
Momentary Outrages: are extremely short periods of no voltage. Their duration can range in time from several milliseconds up to potentially thirty seconds. They are seen by "flickers" or "blinks". They are often the result of lightning strikes. Their symptoms include power loss, electrical memory loss, or the ever popular blinking clock.

Example of voltage wave experiencing momentary outrage.
Electrical Noise: is a signal that, at low voltages superimposes itself on the traditional 60 hertz voltage wave. It is typically very high frequency, spanning the range of only 2-3 kilohertz up to 2-3 megahertz.. This interference or static can often be the result of TV and radio broadcasts, loose wiring contacts or a host of other electronic operations. Typically this static interference leads to some sort of audio or video distortion.

Example of electrical noise superimposed into voltage.
Harmonics: Are currents or voltages that are integer multiples of the fundamental frequency 60 hertz. Typically result form non-linear loads, such as computers hid lightning and variable speed drives. It is not supplied by the utility it draws it. Harmonic currents act on the power system impedance then cause the voltage distortion. Harmonics often cause overheated neutrals, overheated transformers, and blown fuses.

Example of harmonic voltage distortion.
Voltage Unbalances: BY definition, it is expressed as the maximum deviation of the voltage from the 3 phase average voltage, multiplied by 100, then divided by the average voltages. Unbalanced conditions are often caused by unbalanced loads on different phases. These imbalances can lead to early failure of motors and transformers.
CLEAN~VOLT NOT ONLY HAS THE ABILITY TO SHUNT LIGHTNING TO GROUND, BUT ALSO REMOVE THESE HARMFUL SYMPTOMS AND THE DAMAGING RESULTS ASSOCIATED WITH DIRTY ELECTRICAL POWER USAGE.

CAUSES OF POOR POWER QUALITY SYMPTOMS
60% of all electrical pollution is created by consumers of electricity themselves. Such things include switching on TVs, opening the refrigerator door to hitting a key on your computer. Clean~Volt not only eliminates "dirty power" entering your home but also the transients and harmonics caused by the use of electrical components.

BENEFITS OF AN EFFICIENT ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Just like you, your electrical and electronic appliances and equipment like to live in a clean environment. The problem is, like our environment, your electrical system is polluted! We use filters in our furnaces to keep the air clean in our buildings, we use filters to make sure our drinking water is safe. We must keep our electrical systems clean. Everything would last longer and operate more efficiently as designed.
The problem is that our electrical systems are not operating at peak efficiency. Voltage spikes and surges, electrical magnetic interference (EMI), radio frequency interference (RFI), and harmonics are polluting the electrical environment.
These pollutants damage all connected equipment and appliances. They actually reduce their life spans by 30% or more. This means that everything, like in our polluted environment, is under a great deal of stress! For example, when the human body is under stress, it burns more energy, which causes us to get tired faster, and therefore we can not work as long as we otherwise would have.
A well-protected electrical system in which your equipment and appliances live will help them achieve maximum life span to which they were designed originally. Now, like the human body, if they operate in a stress free environment they will consume the proper amount of energy. Not the added energy burn that stress brings. How is this achieved?
Three major factors are required when it comes to cleaning hydro or power. We will use the term power from here forward.
FACTOR
# 1
CLAMPING
FACTOR
# 2
SPEED
FACTOR
# 3
HEAT DISSIPATION
CLAMPING :
The ability to grab as much of the difference between the voltage irregularity
and the actual voltage in the building at that time.
SPEED :
The ability to see the voltage
irregularity. Without speed the clamping ability is greatly reduced.
HEAT DISSIPATION :
Lightning and the harmonic effect
create heat in your electrical system.
Combine these three factors and you get maximum cleaning of your power. Clean your power and you're electrical and electronic appliances and equipment will be operating in a clean environment and consume only the energy that is required. The level of extra energy that your system is using right now will depend on how polluted the power entering your building, how active your electrical system is, (appliances and equipment switching on or off) and how much and what type of equipment you have.
It is a written fact that when proper protection is in place, you can make your electrical system up to 20% more efficient, which in turn keeps precious dollars in your pocket. Once again, your electrical efficiency depends on activity and pollution.

WHAT ELECTRICAL ENGINEERS SAY ABOUT POWER QUALITY
Electrical power pollution generated is costing U.S. Businesses
$26,000,000,000.00 (billion) a year in damage and prevention. Electrical
utilities are unanimous. The epidemic has barely begun. By the year 2000, 60% of
all electricity will be passing through non-linear loads.
BUSINESS WEEK MAGAZINE (APRIL 9, 1991)
"The simplest, most effective (and usually the least expensive) way to
deal with voltage transients, regardless of their point of origin, is with a
transient voltage suppressor."
Ed Plako, Senior Editor, PLANT ENGINEERING MAGAZINE
"The growth of harmonics pollution goes hand-in-hand with increased cost
control, quality control, efficiency and productivity."
Serge Bernard, MGE UPS
system Grenoble, France - POWER QUALITY MAGAZINE
The Clean~Volt unit has passed ANSI\IEEE C62.1 for secondary surge arrester. Exceeding the required 10,000 amp surge by withstanding an induced surge of 15,000 amps. Surpassed test requirements and are in compliance with CSA standard C22.2 No. 0-M1982. Fire rating 94v-0 and UL approved.

Medium-voltage surge
arresters protect electrical distribution equipment
Medium-voltage arresters are wired across line and neutral wires of electrical distribution equipment to limit high voltages produced by switching transients or lightning-induced surges. These arresters are typically mounted in air -- on a pole or metal structure. In some instances, they can be placed inside transformers, switchgear or similar equipment enclosures.
Utilities have used surge arresters and other equipment rated 1000V and higher for many years. Medium-voltage arresters are more important than ever because businesses now own and use them to protect their most valuable assets -- their electronically stored data. As a result, UL and code authorities have become increasingly concerned with the safety certification and appropriate installation of the equipment. (See the article titled "UL certified medium-voltage equipment on the rise," in the Vol. 6, No. 1 issue of The Code Authority.)
UL investigates surge arresters to one of two Standards -- both of which include construction evaluation and product testing. ANSI/IEEE C62.11, Standard for Metal-Oxide Surge Arresters for AC Power Circuits, covers metal-oxide surge arresters. All other types of surge arresters are investigated to IEEE C62.1, Standard for Gapped Silicon-Carbide Surge Arresters for AC Power Circuits.
UL classifies surge arresters by their intended application using prescribed test requirements. The classifications are: station; intermediate; distribution heavy duty; distribution normal duty; and distribution light duty.

The Clean~Volt unit is UL listed and CSA certified for installation at panels
to protect all, rather than just one, of the circuits in a home or
business.
Clean~Volt is hard wired directly to your circuit breaker panel. The unit can be
installed on service panels up to 400 amp service.
Due to the complex nature of the unit, Clean~Volt units must be installed by a professionally certified electrician.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. Find a breaker up to but absolutely
no larger than 20 amp double pole in panel.
2. If necessary, locate this breaker nearest the main breaker as possible.
Either side is acceptable.
3. Install the Clean~Volt unit keeping leads as short as possible for maximum
results. (Map connectors are supplied in order that this can be accomplished on
